We'll get right to it - Lightning Experience is the future of the Salesforce User Experience. Every day, more and more customers are making the switch to Lightning Experience from Classic, and for good reason. Each release delivers new Lightning-exclusive features that customers want to use. As an AppExchange Partner, you need to be ready to serve this growing universe of customers. The Lightning Ready (http://sfdc.co/LightningReady) designation is your way of letting prospects know that your app won't hold them back from adopting Lightning Experience. 

Are you working on a new app for the AppExchange?
If so, Lightning Readiness is a requirement. All new apps entering Security Review, the final step before publishing on the AppExchange, must be Lightning Ready as a prerequisite.

Have an existing app on the AppExchange?
Don't be the app that prevents your customer from adopting Lightning Experience. Test your app and, if necessary, update it to make it compatible. The requirements for being Lightning Ready are pretty straightforward: your app has to work in Lightning Experience. Yep, that's it. You don't have to re-style your app or build a Lightning Component, although we'll applaud your effort if you do and your customers will appreciate it.

Is your app Lightning Ready right now? 

What is preventing you making that change? Lighting is the future of Salesforce.  Every AppExchange Partner (ISV) needs to align with this new framework in order to make the customer experience seamless between your apps and Salesforce apps - it's that simple.  If your app is not Lightning ready, you will find your solution increasingly incompatible with the rest of Salesforce and with other AppExchange Partner apps.   Keep in mind - All AppExchange solutions must be Lightning Ready by September 1, 2019. If you have a solution that is not Lighting Ready by September 1, 2019, that solution may face delisting from the AppExchange. Review this Alert! (login required) to learn more.  See the steps below to learn how to conduct a readiness assessment and make the transition to become Lightning Ready:

  1. Watch the Make Your App Lightning Ready Webinar.
  2. Install your app in a test org. 
  3. Follow these instructions to enable and access the Lightning Experience in your org. 
  4. Run the Lightning Experience Readiness Check to get a high-level report of areas that need attention.  Please note that this is not a comprehensive report, but it's a good start.
  5. Manually test your app to ensure it meets the requirements for being Lightning Ready.
  6. Update your app as necessary to meet the requirements. 
  7. When your solution is Lightning Ready, update your AppExchange Listing as supporting Lightning Experience (as noted in the Lightning Ready Requirements documentation)

General Questions

Q: When will ________ feature/function be available in Lightning?
A: See the Lightning Roadmap and search for the feature/function of interest.  The Lightning Team has made their roadmap public, so the link can be shared with customers as well.

Q: Is there an option to auto re-style Visualforce pages to match Lightning?
A: Yes, this feature was released in Winter '18. Please see the information here.

Q: Is there a timeframe you're anticipating where we will need to support both Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic?
A: All applications submitted for review are now required to be lightning ready. Existing applications must be Lightning Ready by September 1, 2019. After this date, all non-Lightning Ready solutions will be at risk of being delisted. See the Lightning Ready section below. 

Q: My app depends on standard features. How can I determine if these features are supported by Lightning?
A: See this link for information on feature support across Lightning and Classic. 

Q: We are building a new app. Does it makes sense to develop it with Lightning only?
A: Yes. Lightning Components should be the primary technology to use for a new app. If you want to support customers using Salesforce Classic, you may want to also provide Visualforce Page containers that can be added to the pages within Salesforce Classic.

Q: Can we use Lightning Components without Visualforce Container in Classic Mode?
A: Lightning Components are not natively available in Salesforce Classic - you would need to use Lightning Components for Visualforce.

Lightning Ready (for AppExchange Partners)

Q: What does it mean to be Lightning Ready?
A: It means your app works in Lightning. See the Lightning Ready Guide for details. 

What if my solution doesn't use Lightning Experience?
A: Lightning Ready only applies for solutions installable in environments where Lightning Experience can be used.

Q: Does being Lightning Ready allow us to use our own styling as long as works in Lightning Experience?
A: Yes, it's ok to use your own styling or Classic styling. In the long term, however, strongly recommend you update your styling to match the Lightning look and feel.

Q: In order to be certified with Lightning Experience, do we have to use Lightning Components?
A: No, Lightning Components are not required.
